GLPS Families,
As I am sure many of you are aware of by now, last evening, there was a tragic accident in Watertown Township involving a car collision with a number of people walking on Wacousta Road. Our hearts go out to those involved, and, as always, we appreciate the first responders and medical professionals who assisted those impacted.
While there has been a lot of speculation, at this time, GLPS does not have any concrete information about those involved — other than what has been reported by various news outlets and the news release from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department — or their connection to our district.
However, because the accident occurred in Wacousta, we know that this terrible event has been a topic of conversation throughout our district and community this weekend, and that we may have students coming to school tomorrow with concerns, questions, and a desire to talk. We certainly encourage you to have conversations with your child at home, as you deem appropriate for your family. We also want to let you know that we have numerous supports available for students. If students need to talk about this or any other topic on their minds during the school day tomorrow or in the future, we have staff, counselors, social workers, and professionals in the Grand Ledge Public Schools Health Center that are here to help, along with our facility dogs.
As a reminder, tomorrow is a half day at GLPS, and the schedule can be viewed here. We appreciate your support, and ask that you please keep those impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts. Thank you.
Dr. Bill Barnes
