REMINDER - Picking up a student during school hours
To ensure the safety of all students, our staff will not call students to the office to leave early for the day until the person picking them up has presented a valid ID and completed the sign-out process. Please plan accordingly for appointments, allowing extra time for this procedure. Additionally, it's important to keep your student's contact information current. If someone not listed on your student's emergency contact list arrives to pick them up, we will not be able to release your student to them.
Volunteer Application
Thank you to those who came to volunteer at Best Day Ever last week. We appreciate your help to make sure everyone had a safe, fun time. Going forward, if you plan to volunteer or need to enter the building for an extended period of time, please fill out this application. This is REQUIRED when coming to volunteer in our building. It takes a couple of days for the background check to be completed, so please plan accordingly based on your volunteering schedule. In addition to volunteering, this application will also allow you to sign out a student at the kiosk. The secretaries will still need to call down your student to the office, but this process is an extra layer of security when releasing a student to an adult.
Advisory on Phones Outside of School
We have started getting reports of questionable activities that students are doing with their phones outside of school hours. Of course, we don’t monitor student phone usage as phones are not allowed during the school day at Hayes. That said, students often tell us about TikTok and YouTube videos that they watch after school that most parents would not find appropriate for 10 and 11 year olds. Once students see alarming things, they cannot unsee them. We also are occasionally asked to intervene in inappropriate SnapChat or Instagram conversations that happen outside of school. Most social media sites require members to be 13 years old before even creating an account, but kids often bypass that by simply saying they are old enough. For the safety of all, if you allow your child to have a cell phone, please consider setting parental controls and carefully monitor their use.
Picture Retake/Make-up Day - Tuesday, October 15th
Students photos went home this week. If your student missed picture day or you want retakes, it is going to take place on October 15th. The office has make-up picture forms or you can order online at https://store.geskusphoto.com/ and search for Hayes Intermediate.
If you would like your students' pictures retaken, you must send in the complete packet of pictures from the 1st take in order to have them retaken.

Fall Harvest Celebrations
Our classroom Fall Harvest Celebrations will be held on Thursday, October 31. Teachers will be coordinating activities and snacks for students in their classes. Please look for communication in the near future from your child’s teacher for the specifics. The celebrations will not include costumes.
Lost and Found
Fall is upon us and that brings lost jackets, sweatshirts, sweats to the lost and found table. We even have some pairs of glasses! There is already an overflow of lost items with limited storage space. If you know your student had a certain clothing item and you have not seen it in a while please come and check out the lost and found. Items that are not claimed before Thanksgiving break will be donated to Ken’s Coat Closet.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
We have an outstanding joint PTO with the Beagle Middle building! Our PTO has provided several incredible opportunities for our students, staff, and facilities over the past few years. This work is accomplished through the support of our community and family members. We always encourage our family members to attend our PTO meetings whether it's one time, intermittently, or consistently--all participation is helpful and impactful to our school culture and benefits our children. Here are some important updates from our PTO:
The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 22 (Date Change), at 6:30pm in the Beagle Media Center or you can attend the first meeting virtually at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994.

Hayes Happenings!
The school news is a completely student-led operation. They work hard creating and putting together content each week! Sometimes there are parts that may be louder than others, etc. They analyze and critique each episode as a class on Mondays and aim to improve as the year continues. Thank you all for your support and encouragement of our Broadcasting enrichment class! Here is a link to this week's episode! Hayes Happenings 10/11/24 Episode!
Big Brothers/Big Sisters Site Based Mentoring
We are proud to announce that we are partnering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters to help mentor students at Hayes Intermediate this school year. Per parent request, students will be matched with an adult mentor from our local community. Students will meet with their “Big” during the school day one time per week during the school year. Students in the Site Based Mentoring Program are only permitted to see their Big at the school. If you would like to get your student started with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, please click here: https://bbbs.tfaforms.net/f/bbbsmcryouthapp
