Dear Hayes Intermediate Families,

There is a lot happening at Hayes Intermediate over the next several weeks! Please find upcoming activities listed below. This week’s newsletter is longer than normal, but we want to make sure to keep you informed.

Afternoon Carline

As we have shared previously, construction is scheduled for the summer of 2025 to streamline the dropoff/pickup process at Hayes Intermediate. Unfortunately, this will not benefit the families of any of our current students. The PM carline currently runs for approximately 20 minutes when it gets started at 2:20. To avoid waiting in such a long line, simply arrive later, like 2:35, and catch the tail end of the line. Most importantly, do not ask your student to walk across the parking lot (except at the crosswalk) or board your vehicle on Nixon Road. The traffic comes through the area too quickly and we want to keep kids safe and avoid any tragedies.

Hayes/Beagle PTO - Tuesday, February 13

The next Hayes/Beagle Parent Teacher Organization meeting will be on Tuesday, February 13 at 6:30 in the Beagle Middle School Media Center. If you choose to attend remotely, here is a Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994

Social Media Lessons

On Tuesday, February 13th we will be hosting Melea Belton (Director of Behavior/Mental Health Services) and Vicki Roush (Behavior/Mental Health Specialist) to present a Social Media and Technology responsibility lesson to the 6th graders. This lesson will allow students to consider the dangers and consequences of social media misuse.

Affirmation Day

At Hayes Intermediate School, we celebrate Kindness Month with an Affirmation Day on Friday, February 16th. Teachers facilitate students sharing kindness with written words of affirmation for one another in their classes. This activity is done entirely at school, but teachers will communicate with you about it through classroom newsletters.

Math Night at Hayes Intermediate

Join us Wednesday February 21 from 6:00-7:30 pm for Math Night at Hayes Intermediate. Families will be able to attend 3 different sessions about varying math topics. Families are also welcome to enjoy pizza for dinner. We are asking for RSVPs to help us plan and organize the event. Please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/Fxofn1wJfkGfCEpDA  We will see you there!

All School Read Begins February 23

Our whole school is about to take part in a special, community-wide shared reading event.

Every family will receive a free copy of the same book  – When Stars Are Scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed – and will be asked to read it together at home in February and March. We are asking you to set aside time so that your family can participate in this special activity, beginning February 23rd.

Earth Day Tree Giveaway

Hayes Intermediate is gearing up for Earth Day 2024 by again having the opportunity for families to receive a free tree.  Use this link to register your children (even if they are not at our school) to receive a free tree.  Make sure to list the Homeroom teacher of the student that does go to Hayes so we can get the tree to them on delivery day.  Please note that even though this program offers addons and donations, this is a FREE opportunity.  If you can't take a tree we ask that you still sign up for one as we will donate them to people that can plant them in your honor.  Thank you and go PLANET EARTH!

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run begins February 26th and lasts for 10 weeks. It meets Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30-4:00 PM. Coaches will be Shannon Bauer, Julie Kushman, Zykia Davis, and Karlee Fillmore. Interested students should pick up a flier in the main office. Please see the attached flier .

Talent Show

Attention 6th grade Students! Do you have a special talent that you would like to showcase? Hayes Intermediate will be offering an opportunity for students to audition and perform at the 2nd Annual Talent Show on March 20th. This coming week, homeroom teachers will prompt students to fill out an interest survey for those who would like to participate. Auditions will be held the week of February 26th. More specific information to follow.
