GLPS Families,
Welcome back! It was wonderful to see staff and students back in our buildings this week, and we were able to jump right back into our learning routines. As we head into the weekend, I have a couple of updates to share with you:
- At the December 9th board meeting, the GLPS Board of Education approved our building and district-wide school improvement goals for the year. Our teams across the district spent the fall analyzing our data and monitoring our progress from last year, and developed these goals for the year. I invite you to take some time to review the goals for your children’s schools, as well as for the district as a whole. As a reminder, you can also check out our progress on last year’s goals, along with the new ones, on our strategic plan page, which can be found here.
- Aside from tracking our progress on goals, we also utilize information contained on a site called MiSchoolData to determine how well we are progressing as a district. There is a lot of great information housed here for families and community members to review that indicate our growth as a district. Our schools are among the highest performing in the area, as evidenced by a number of data points, and I invite you to take a look at your school’s reports. This data is all publicly available and updated annually.
- As a reminder to our BK-8 families, our testing windows for many of the assessments we use, including NWEA, will be opening in the coming weeks. These assessments help us gather valuable information about what students know and do not know, which helps us to make plans to meet the needs of all of our students and helps us track progress toward our goals.
That is all I have for this week. Again, I am excited to be back after the winter break, and glad that we have the continued opportunity to work with you and your students every single day. The vision for our district, as outlined in our strategic plan, is to provide every student a high-quality education, critical thinking skills, and social development to reach their highest potential in a safe and inclusive environment. Our goals move us toward that vision, and our data shows that we are achieving it, but none of it happens without the partnerships between our staff, students, families, and communities. Thank you for all you do; as always, I am #proudtobeacomet!
