Dear Beagle Middle School Families,
On account of Martin Luther King Day in conjunction with the two snow days, this week’s newsletter is going to somewhat of a repeat of last week. Please note that we did not celebrate Students’ of the Week this week. Here are some brief reminders and updates:
NWEA Testing: Our students did an outstanding job with NWEA testing both last week and this week, especially since the Math test was pushed to Friday due to the snow days. Students that were absent or still need to finish taking either assessment will do so on Monday and Tuesday next week in the media center; we will call them down throughout the day. Due to the snow days, the NWEA testing window was slightly extended through the end of next week; therefore, scores will not be available in PowerSchool for parents to view until the second week of February. Our staff will be reviewing this data next Thursday during our data analysis meeting to help guide instruction moving forward. The good news is that students will not have to worry about additional testing until later this spring.
International Night: Tonight is International Night in the Grand Ledge High School auditorium from 6-9pm. This event welcomes the community to learn about and celebrate different cultures. If you are interested in attending or would like more information, please click on the following link: https://www.glcomets.net/news/upcoming-events-district-news-community-information/international-night/
Winter PTO-Sponsored Dance: Our PTO-sponsored informal winter dance will be held on Friday, January 31st from 2:45-4:30 pm. Tickets, $10 each, will be sold the day of the dance during both lunches, and students may also purchase a ticket after school at the dance. This week, we sent a google form to our students to see how many students were interested in attending the dance, so that we could get a rough estimate for food and snacks. If your student plans on attending and they have not filled out the form, please encourage them to do so this weekend. Speaking of google forms we email to students: please note that sometimes through SchoolMessenger, forms we email to students also go to parents. We have been working with our technology department to fix this issue, but there are still bugs in the system. Please note that when forms are sent specifically to students, parents cannot fill them out because they do not have a GL email account, which is a permissions setting within the form. We apologize if you receive these correspondences, please ignore them in the future. Also, we are still in need of family volunteers at the dance. Please sign up using the following link if you are interested in helping out: https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/10C094BAAA92BABF4C43-53940576-beagle
Grand Ledge Trap Shooting Team, Parent Meeting January 27th: There will be a mandatory parent meeting on January 27th, 7pm, at the Capital Area Sportsmen’s League. This year will mark the sixth year of our trap shooting team in Grand Ledge, officially registered through the Michigan State High School Clay Target League. Students in grades 6-12 are welcome to join with appropriate safety certifications (either successful completion of Michigan Hunter Safety or the safety course through the Clay Target League). The team continues to grow, which is outstanding. If your student is interested in joining the team and they have not completed the Michigan Hunter Safety program through the state, we highly recommend they do so ASAP. Athletes of all experience levels are welcome to join! Season typically begins in mid-March. Please click here for more information:
PTO Meeting: We thank our families that attended the previous PTO meeting; your support is appreciated. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind our families that attendance at PTO meetings does not require an every month commitment; family support and input is appreciated whether it’s attending one or several PTO meetings. Our next Hayes/Beagle PTO meeting will be on Tuesday, February 11th at 6:30 pm here in the Beagle Media center. Families may also attend this meeting virtually as there is currently a hybrid offering.
