Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,
We wanted to reach out to send a few reminders:
Open House– Tuesday, August 29th–4:30-6 pm: We apologize for the error in our newsletter last week. We wanted to confirm that Open House is Tuesday, August 29th from 4:30-6 pm at Beagle. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to meet teaching staff before the start of the school year.
First Day of School–Wednesday, August 30th: Half day, 7:52-10:52, No Check and Connect (CNC) class.
Schedules, Chromebooks, and Pictures: This is just a friendly reminder that schedule and chromebook distribution along with the initial school picture opportunity will be as follows:
- 7th grade, August 23rd from 4-7 pm
- 8th grade, August 24th from 4-7 pm
As we noted last week, medication drop-off is also available during this time. In addition, medications can be dropped off during open hours noted below. Here are the necessary forms: https://www.glcomets.net/parentcommunityresources/medical-forms/medical--other-forms/all-other-medication--medical-treatment-at-school/.
Schedules and Chromebooks can be picked up here at Beagle during our open office hours the next few days for those that were not able to attend on their assigned date.
Office hours are as follows:
- Thursday, August 24th from 12-7 pm
- Friday, August 25th from 8 am-12 pm
- Monday, August 28th from 11 am-3 pm
- Tuesday, August 29th from 11:30 am-6:30 pm
- Monday-Friday throughout the school year, our office is open from 7 am-3:30 pm.
Schedules Viewable in PowerSchool: Beginning, Wednesday, August 23rd at 9 am, parents and students will be able to view student schedules for the 23-24 school year. Please ensure that when viewing schedules that the 23-24 year is selected instead of 23-24 Trimester 1. This way, parents and students can view elective rotations for the entire school year. In regards to elective rotations, it’s important to note that trimester-long elective courses rotate each trimester within the same hour. For example, if a student has PE 2nd hour and Art 5th hour, then they will rotate into their other electives within those hours at the turn of each trimester. Math, Science, Social Studies, and Science classes do not change at all throughout the year; these classes remain within the same hour and with the same teacher. Year-long electives such as Band, Choir, and Foreign Language remain within the same hour for the duration of the year.
Schedule and Lunch Changes: As we noted last week, our district policy is that we are not able to make schedule changes for desired electives or based on teacher preference as we do not have the logistical capacity to accommodate those requests. Schedule changes can only be made for students with missing classes (hole in schedule) or duplicate classes within schedule, within same trimester. In addition, lunches are strategically chosen based on 4th hour teachers to ensure balanced lunch numbers, to ensure a focused learning environment for students not on lunch, and to ensure–to the greatest extent possible–there are equal numbers of 7th and 8th graders in both lunches. Therefore, we cannot honor requests to change lunches. We appreciate both parent and student support and understanding with these policies.
Next Newsletter: On Friday this week, we will send our next newsletter, which will contain logistical information and expectations to ensure a smooth start to the school year. Newsletters will be regularly sent on Friday each week, and we also update our website regularly with important information. Here is the link to our website: https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/. We promise that as we get into the school year, there will not be as many reminder emails.
