FAQ for Schools of Choice & Release Students

What is a release application?

  • This is a form that the district that you live in must sign to release your student to our district for funding purposes.
  • This is good for one school year, and can be denied for any reason.

What is a school of choice application?

  • This is an application that you complete for the open grade levels a district has available.
  • Once a student is accepted they do not need to renew their application. They will continue to roll to the next school year unless enrollment is broken or the student is expelled.
  • An application can be only denied for the following reasons.
    • If a student has had a suspension in the past two school years, or has ever been expelled.
    • If a cooperative agreement is not met with your resident district for a special education student regarding payment of services.

What if I have one student in a school of choice grade and one in a release grade?

  • Please submit an application for both students.  The acceptance process is different for school of choice and release students.  GLPS generally will try to keep your students together, but there are a number of reasons we may only be able to accept one student.

What if I have a current student and move out of the district?

  • Please submit an application, and GLPS will try keep your child here.  In rare circumstances, GLPS may not be able to keep your child here.

Who provides transportation for my student?

  • Transportation to and from our school district will be the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian if you are a school of choice or release student.

Does GLPS offer before and after school care?

  • We have our Adventure Club at all elementary schools and Hayes Intermediate School. Click here to visit our Adventure Club site for more information.
  • Please note spaces fill up very quickly, but if they fill up there is a waitlist you can be added to by contacting the assistant director.
